Bowie’s Oddity

Bowie’s Oddity

Hedwig de Leon

One day Wind took me so far I could

see Earth.  In my head I hear David

Bowie singing “Planet Earth Is blue

and there’s nothing

I can do…”  How true! For here

I am sitting not on a tin can

but on wings of Wind, watching

a slow moving Blue, and thinking

how odd, that we always say

Sky is up when in some places

It is on the side, and in some even

way down.  How many of us walk

upside down, right side up, in oblique,

or horizontal?  Do Earth and Sun

have front and back—do they sometimes

face each other, go side to side or back

to back?  Why do we say apple “Fell

down” when it “Fell up?” And why

do we say that angels descended

when maybe they ascended

to Earth and for that reason

maybe the Ascencion

is a Descencion?
